Blogtember Challenge: Summer Favorites

blogtember2016 graphic

This summer was kind of a bust for me.  I didn’t fit in a single beach day or even a quick trip to the pool!  I ended up having a lot on my plate at work, and having to spend so much time training Nutmeg and fitting my life around her I just didn’t have a lot of time for summer luxuries.

Anyway, here’s five of my summer favs!

Woodside Creamery

We started going here when I was just a kiddo and then when I got older and we moved it was right around the corner.  Seriously the best ice cream ever!  I only made it there twice this year (to celebrate the end of my dad’s schoolyear, and to counteract the return), but it’s open through October, so there’s still hope!

Lemon Print Cami

I bought this top earlier this summer and it has been so perfect for barbecues and nights out with friends.  It’s flowy and has a split back/front that looks great.  I also have been loving the fresh lemon print; it’s a great way to wear yellow without looking like an ear of corn!  If you’re in search of a strapless bra to wear with it, I recently got this one and it was actually life changing!

Barkbox

I’m a sucker for my dog, so I ordered her a Barkbox subscription and I love it!  I was skeptical, but it is well worth the price for the value you are getting.  It’s fun every month when it arrives for us to open it and see what treats and toys she received.  (Sign up here if you want to try it out!)  On top of that, the BarkPost blog is hilarious – think BuzzFeed but totally dog themed.  Perfect for puppy lovers!  Here’s my favorite post so far; it’s actually so true.

Gazela Vinho Verde

gazela vinho verde

This is a great summer wine and really affordable.  I’ve been able to find it in most shops I stop in, so you have to try it out!  (I also think it will be a good wine for September and October when you’re still keeping things light!)

Bachelor in Paradise

We didn’t do any brackets or leagues for this season, but I have really been enjoying everyone’s shenanigans.  Ashley I. always brings the entertainment and I’m loving the Grace (Grant/Lace) drama.  Really looking forward to January when Nick’s season of The Bachelor will air?  Will he find love? (I’m sure he will, but let’s all be in suspense about it.)

What have you been loving this summer?  Is there anything you just can’t get enough of?

Finance Friday: Why I’m NOT Tracking My Spending This Month

Finance Friday

Do you ever just get totally burnt out?  That’s how I’ve been feeling lately when it comes to work, social engagements, cooking, pretty much everything.  I’m especially feeling it when it comes to my finances though!

With buying a house, getting a puppy (kaching $$$) and having a roommate move in, I feel like I’m spending a ridiculous amount of time and energy analyzing my budget.  Simply put, I’m not perfect and so I overanalyze and come out feeling worse than before – definitely not where I want to be when it comes to my money.

Y’all know I’m kind of crazy about making sure I know where EVERY SINGLE CENT goes, but this month I want to take a break from it to get a bit of a refresh!

That being said, I’m not going to throw my entire strategy and plan out the window, so I’m actually going to use the month as a financial and mental reset.  I’m doing another cleanse (check out the one I did in January, February and March here, here and here) with pretty much the same rules as before, but I’m also going to cut back on social engagements.  I know this will help with the financial burnout, but I’m hoping it helps with the social burnout as well.

Anyone else feeling like they need to change up their goals/strategies this month?

Introducing the Blogtember Challenge (and also me too!)

Something I haven’t made a ton of time for is this blog (even though I’ve had it for 3 years now, whoa!).  When I do find the time to dedicate to it, I feel inspired and fulfilled, which is awesome.  I really encourage anyone to find something small that fills them up with a warm, fuzzy feeling, whether that be reading a good book with a PSL (I prefer the peppermint mocha latte season TBH), writing, doing yoga, whatever makes you happy!

That being said, I’m making my best attempt at the Blogtember Challenge from Love Bailey Jean.  I’m not sure how closely I’ll follow her suggested prompts, but I already know that I’ll be straying at least a little bit.  I’m really hoping it will help me to build the motivation to make writing and producing content a higher priority in my day to day life.

Today is all about getting to know me, which of course you can do by hitting up my about page, so I’m going to answer some funny questions that I found here.

At which store would you like to max out your credit card?

There are so many options! This is going to be so basic of me, but probably Target.  I just feel like I can get anything I need and don’t need there, so it’s all encompassing.

Which storybook/cartoon character turns you on most?

I’ll just assume they mean attracts me?  I honestly have no idea.

What was your favorite TV show when growing up?

I’ll go with Sabrina the Teenage Witch.  I watched it on TGIF and then even later.

Choose a movie title for the story of your life.

Must Love Dogs would work, different story line though.

What was your favorite toy as a kid?

I had this stuffed dog that kind of resembled a floppy eared rabbit that I called Woof Puppy.

How old is the oldest pair of shoes in your closet?

I have a pair of sandals that I think I got around age 12, so 13 years old.

Can you play any instruments?

I can muddle through simple piano tunes.

What is the oldest thing in your refrigerator?

So many options…probably the crumbled Feta cheese.

What is the nerdiest thing you do in your spare time?

Track my finances, spending, savings rate, debt repayment rate, etc.

What is your favorite cereal?

I really like the Fruit and Yogurt Special K, but find it kind of expensive.  I just found a generic version at Giant, so that has lifted my spirits!

What, if anything, have you ever re-gifted?

Can’t think of a whole lot, but definitely sorority big-little gifts.

What was the worst punishment you received at school?

In the 6th grade my friend asked to borrow a pencil from me in art class on the first day.  The teacher caught us talking and made me sit in a desk in the front of the room facing everyone for the entire semester.  Even now it seems like overkill to me.

What’s the strangest talent you have?

Fitting a ridiculous amount of stuff into closets.

What was your childhood nickname?

Emmy.

Do you have any strange phobias?

Nope.

What’s your favorite flavor of Pringles?

Sour cream & onion.

Have you ever had a poem or a song written about you?

When my high school boyfriend had his Eagle Court of Honor his friends wrote a poem to me.  It was hysterical!

Which way does your toilet paper hang on the wall – over or under?

Over!

What, or who, are you a “closet” fan of?

Star Trek, but it’s not a secret; it just doesn’t come up that often.

When did you accept a dare that you later regretted?

Dares weren’t a big thing with my friends, so none.

Wat is one thing that all of your love-interests have had in common?

College educated I think.

Where and when did you have your first kiss?

I was 12 I think and it was at my friend Kerry’s house in her basement (and it was a ginger!).

What are three things still left on your bucket list?

I really want to take a cruise around the Mediterranean, I’d like to complete a sprint triathlon and I want to complete the DE Wine, Beer and Spirit Trail.

If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose?

I think the ability to control time so that I could pause during the good moments to take them in and fast forward through the tough ones.

What is the worst pet you have ever had?

Hermit crabs.
