Blogtember Challenge: Currently

Clearly I have not kept up with my “I’m not going to follow the  and post every day!”  Ahh, such is life.  I was really hoping I’d have the time and mentality to get it done, but with my housewarming party on Saturday and traveling last weekend for my nephew’s birthday, I just couldn’t find the time or motivation to sit down and write, so here we are!  My plan from here is to complete the challenge, but Blogtember may have to blend into Blogtober…

That being said I think I’m going to try to keep in order of the prompts, so today would beeeeeeeee “What are you up to currently?”

Ladies and gentlemen, currently I am up to complete and utter chaos!

Y’all, lately I have been working a lot.  I always say that we don’t have a busy season in my line of work and while that’s true, it means that any and all seasons can be unpredictably busy.  Over the last year my boss has gone after and won a lot of cool projects,  but now it’s time to pay up in blood, sweat and tears (okay, it’s mostly sweat…).

My Odyssey of the Mind team practices will start up next week and I am so excited to get back into it.  We’ll be doing the balsa wood structure problem again this year and I’m really looking forward to the fresh start with a new team (okay, six kids are the same and there will only be one new kid).  It’s something I look forward to all week and it’s nice to be able to participate more fully in my community.

My housewarming party is this weekend!  I’ve been looking forward to it for a while and ordered the cutest invitations.  Like all good things though, there’s a big but, and the but is…I have 50+ (I actually am now thinking this number is closer to 75+, ayiyi) people coming to my house on Saturday expecting food, drinks and fun.  It’s going to be a great time, but has taken a lot of planning, coordination and delegation on my part.

In other news, my roommate moved in!  I wasn’t sure how I’d actually feel once he got here (I definitely got a little used to living alone), but so far it has been amazing!  We really don’t cross paths very much because we’re both so busy, but the rare 20 minutes to an hour we spend together every couple of days is really fun!

Nutmeg and I have been going to puppy kindergarten to get her all trained up!  She will graduate from level 1 next week, but I’ve decided to start level  2 the same night, so she’ll move right into 1st grade.  My dad and his latest addition Uno will be in the same class, so I’m hoping this gives Nutmeg and Uno a chance to bond.  Also Nutmeg was spayed last week; isn’t she the cutest in her cone of shame?!

Last weekend I did a quick one night/28 hour trip down to DC and Williamsburg for my nephew’s 3rd birthday party.  It was a great time and I love that he’s at such a fun age right now.  It’s awesome!

What have you been up to?  Do you feel like your summer is simmering down or you fall is gearing up?

Blogtember Challenge: Summer Favorites

blogtember2016 graphic

This summer was kind of a bust for me.  I didn’t fit in a single beach day or even a quick trip to the pool!  I ended up having a lot on my plate at work, and having to spend so much time training Nutmeg and fitting my life around her I just didn’t have a lot of time for summer luxuries.

Anyway, here’s five of my summer favs!

Woodside Creamery

We started going here when I was just a kiddo and then when I got older and we moved it was right around the corner.  Seriously the best ice cream ever!  I only made it there twice this year (to celebrate the end of my dad’s schoolyear, and to counteract the return), but it’s open through October, so there’s still hope!

Lemon Print Cami

I bought this top earlier this summer and it has been so perfect for barbecues and nights out with friends.  It’s flowy and has a split back/front that looks great.  I also have been loving the fresh lemon print; it’s a great way to wear yellow without looking like an ear of corn!  If you’re in search of a strapless bra to wear with it, I recently got this one and it was actually life changing!

I’m a sucker for my dog, so I ordered her a Barkbox subscription and I love it!  I was skeptical, but it is well worth the price for the value you are getting.  It’s fun every month when it arrives for us to open it and see what treats and toys she received.  (Sign up here if you want to try it out!)  On top of that, the BarkPost blog is hilarious – think BuzzFeed but totally dog themed.  Perfect for puppy lovers!  Here’s my favorite post so far; it’s actually so true.

Gazela Vinho Verde

gazela vinho verde

This is a great summer wine and really affordable.  I’ve been able to find it in most shops I stop in, so you have to try it out!  (I also think it will be a good wine for September and October when you’re still keeping things light!)

Bachelor in Paradise

We didn’t do any brackets or leagues for this season, but I have really been enjoying everyone’s shenanigans.  Ashley I. always brings the entertainment and I’m loving the Grace (Grant/Lace) drama.  Really looking forward to January when Nick’s season of The Bachelor will air?  Will he find love? (I’m sure he will, but let’s all be in suspense about it.)

What have you been loving this summer?  Is there anything you just can’t get enough of?

Finance Friday: Why I’m NOT Tracking My Spending This Month

Finance Friday

Do you ever just get totally burnt out?  That’s how I’ve been feeling lately when it comes to work, social engagements, cooking, pretty much everything.  I’m especially feeling it when it comes to my finances though!

With buying a house, getting a puppy (kaching $$$) and having a roommate move in, I feel like I’m spending a ridiculous amount of time and energy analyzing my budget.  Simply put, I’m not perfect and so I overanalyze and come out feeling worse than before – definitely not where I want to be when it comes to my money.

Y’all know I’m kind of crazy about making sure I know where EVERY SINGLE CENT goes, but this month I want to take a break from it to get a bit of a refresh!

That being said, I’m not going to throw my entire strategy and plan out the window, so I’m actually going to use the month as a financial and mental reset.  I’m doing another cleanse (check out the one I did in January, February and March here, here and here) with pretty much the same rules as before, but I’m also going to cut back on social engagements.  I know this will help with the financial burnout, but I’m hoping it helps with the social burnout as well.

Anyone else feeling like they need to change up their goals/strategies this month?
