Home, Sweet Home – Delaware Homesick Candle

I’ve been following Homesick Candles for a while now, and obviously was DESPERATELY awaiting the release of their Delaware candle.  (How could I not?  It’s so on brand for me!)  It finally came out, so it took about 3 minutes for me to enter my payment information and hit “purchase.”  Less than 48 hours later, I had it in my hands!

Before I even got the candle out of the packaging, I could smell it.  Seriously, it is so fragrant and smelled so good.  The Delaware scent is “hints of Delaware strawberries, the Delaware River, and sandy beaches.”  As an “expert” on all things Delaware, I’m not sure these are 100% the most iconic scents of Delaware (maybe the River, but uhm, it’s a REALLY bad smell), but they sure do make a nice candle, so I won’t complain!

Another thing I really love about the candle is the aesthetic.  I love that the candle is a neutral ivory, the jar is clear and the label is subdued and classic.  I’ve already sat it in my dining room and my living room and I know it will work well in other parts of my house as well.

The list of states is pretty extensive and Homesick Candles even has different options for different parts of California.  If you’re like me and hail from a less populated area, keep your eyes and ears out – any remaining states are under development!

If you just adore your home state the way I do, don’t just stop at a candle.  There are so many great “state” home decor items that I just cannot get enough of!  I didn’t do very much clothing shopping (as in none) in the Nordstrom sale a few months ago, but I did get a set of these Delaware stemless wine glasses.  They’re really beautiful and a subtle way to give a nod!  I think they’d make a great housewarming or wedding gift as well.

My roommate also brought home this perfect wine stopper for me a few weeks ago when he had stopped at Bed, Bath & Beyond.  Like Target, BB&B is one of those stores where you walk in for one item, but realize you need about a dozen more that you can find in the “under $10” or “as seen on TV” sections.

My collection of Dela Darling Delaware Decor (say that 5 times fast!) is still growing, but I’d love to add the throw pillow and gold foil print shown below soon!

Lustworthy: Shower Curtains

At both my parents’ house and in my apartment I have sliding doors on my bathtub.  Not too surprising as shower doors are pretty common.  However, my new house does not have doors, only the curtain rod.  This lead to me freaking out at 3 A.M. about how I was possibly going to take a shower upon moving in.  Well, Target to the rescue!  They have so many cute shower curtain options that I had such a hard time deciding.  I ended up picking this Coral Blooms option as it’s fairly neutral, but has that pop of pink that I love.  (I even think it will be understated enough not to bother my male roommate!)

Of course, since the curtain had a matching towel set (hand & bath) I decided to get two sets and I’ll reserve them for “guest” towels – or maybe myself so I can feel like I’m living the high life!

In addition to the shower curtain I needed to get curtain hooks.  Even though I could have spent a little less money on super plain, generic hooks, I fell in love with these flower hooks.  I think they’ll be the perfect little touch!

I definitely am in a phase of my life where I go for neutral/classic/feminine/preppy decor and my choice of shower curtain was no different.  I’m not going to lie though, teenage me really wants the multicolored leopard print one below!

Lustworthy: Bar Cart Decor

My instincts right now are telling me to purchase every single cute decor item possible for my house, but I know the smart thing is to not only wait until I actually own it, but to also spread it out over time and know that I really love what I’m buying.  I decided to make one concession and that is for my bar and bar cart hacks.

Future posts are coming when I’ve completed the DIY part of the projects, but I’m loosely following this tutorial for the bar cart and I’m kind of making it up as I go for the bar.

I’m really envisioning this part of my house to be done first and ready for any events.  I was too concerned that I wouldn’t be settled in time for my Bachelorette premiere party (May 23rd), so I’m going to host it at a friend’s apartment building as he has a small movie theater room we could reserve.  This means my first anticipated “event” will be the Bachelorette finale in July.  I’m sure I’ll still have friends over for game nights, dinners, etc. before then, so that makes it even more important that my “entertaining” space is up to par.

Basically, I just wanted an excuse to populate my dining room with the cutest barware!  I ended up ordering these highball glasses, this whiskey set and this tray for the bar cart.  I’m not planning on getting much stemware or other glass ware, but I knew I didn’t really have enough highball glasses to make me happy.  (Because of my wine tasting hobby I have a few cases of wine glasses – stemmed, stemless, red, white, etc.)  I also just love the look of the gold accent and wanted to pull that in somehow, so I think these glasses will be a great way to do that.

Wine Charms

These shoe charms are so cute!  I already have a similar set, but also really like these others.

So many cute gold options.  I think the “Drinks on Me” set is my favorite and definitely would complement these Kate Spade cocktail napkins I already have.

Cocktail Napkins

Of course I already have the Kate Spade set, but seriously there are so many cute options.  Although I’m not sure you really need tons of cocktail napkins and coasters, but a girl can dream!  I guess I can justify having various paper options since they’re not reusable.

Ice Buckets

Of course the Kate Spade is adorable, but I think I love the Golden Waves option a little bit more.  It just comes across a little more classic to me, whereas the Kate Spade polka dots are a tad trendy.

Bar Tools

There’s something so chic about not just having a bar fully stocked with liquor, but to also have it fully stocked with equipment.  I just love the look of these shakers, jiggers and strainers.  Seriously, these might be the make or break accessories!

  • Of course, I *need* to have the cutest straws to put in one of the highball glasses.
  • I know the trendy thing right now is also to string tassels like these on the cart.
  • I wouldn’t be the hostess with the mostest if I didn’t have the cutest cups like these or these for nuts and other bar snacks.
